fake parents
This is a short story told by Racheal. It is about how her “fake mom” changed her life for the best. Thanks to Racheal for letting me share her heartfelt story. Also thanks to Daniel Gilbert for the extra nature photos. Music by Goldmun and the True Romance soundtrack.

I crying right now. i met rachael a long time ago in sc through her room mate, jenny, and it’s good to see her face again. i’m happy to see that parental style love has found rachael. everyone deserves that and especially her.r beautifully done video!

I’m the “fake” mother although I try not to be fake, if you know what I mean. One thing, among many, that I appreciate greatly about my relationship with Racheal is that it is built upon truth. Karina, I think your beautiful pictures of Racheal capture her vulnerabilty, sadness and triumph of the spirit. That makes the film compelling. One look at those pictures taken in the apartment and on the fire escape is a journey to her soul.

Racheal has been my “fake sister” for 13 years, the sister of my heart. Anyone who is lucky enough to be chosen to be in her family is truly blessed. I love seeing my amazing Racheal in action, telling the truth of part of her epic story. Thank you, Karina, for capturing her here. Thank you Racheal, for being open to making this beautiful documentary of you.
